v3.3 - The Forest Build

You can download this script from the downloads page. I will put up a better description of what has changed and what you can expect when I have more time, but for  now my official statement is;

If you have been using L-System prior to v3.3, this version will blow your mind

For details of what I recollect of the development, please read the change log below.

The main idea of this update was to 'ready' the script to become a proper blender script - that is one that does not need to sit in its own .blend file to run.

This required a few things to change, and the UI is got another overhaul at the same time.

This version of the script isn't integrated directly into Blender, but it covered a lot of ground towards that goal.

V3.3 - Change Log

Unfortunately I do not seem to have kept a change log for this version.

There are a LOT of changes, I will name a few that I can remember:

  • Tabs. The UI is now arranged in Tabs to make things easier to find and see
  • Multiple Trees can be generated at once
  • Multiple Configurations can be used to generate multiple trees in a variety of ways
  • Script no longer requires a tree to be generated at 0,0,0. Empties, other objects and cursor position are now valid options. Scale and Rotate (etc) of those objects can be automatically applied to the tree if desired.
  • Multiple configurations can be edited at once (someone tell me if this isn't the case)
  • Trees have configurable names prepended to them so you can find the objects
  • There are user preferences and default configuration values for the script
  • Load and Save has been updated to handle changes to generation configurations and backwards compatibility has been maintained with previous script versions.
  • Code has been refactored to have much more logical structure, which strangely helps with future compatibility for Blender v2.5

There are likely many other things I have changed, but those are the primary ones.
